Did you know that when you put a glass rod inside glass jar containing glycerin, it will disappear? Or that you can poke through your take away tea bag with a pencil, without it being spilled? All these and many more ‘magic’ science tricks were showcased in the auditions of the Science Buskers Festival 2016, organised by A*STAR and Science Centre Singapore between 25-27 May 2016.
Enthusiastic school students from 78 Primary schools, 42 Secondary schools and 18 tertiary schools/open category formed 138 teams and demonstrated their cool science experiments to woo judges to select them for the grand finals.
The experiments were judged based on the following three categories:
- Science communication, their ability to communicate science accurately in everyday language.
- Showmanship, the level of ‘wow’ factor in their experiments, and their ability to engage, interest and excite the audience.
- Setup, Costume, Overall look and feel.
The busking talents of the teams were brilliant and the judges had a hard time short listing the finalists who will proceed to the finals that will be held at Vivo City on 16th and 17th of July. The 34 teams selected are as below:
